TREND WATCH SP10: Mixed Prints

Mixing Prints

Mixing prints is definitely not a new concept, but it is a daring one for many because you can so easily get it wrong and end up looking like the the star attraction for Barnum & Bailey Circus.

To try mixing prints you need an open mind and an attitude of disregard for the opinions of others. Sometimes only a few may appreciate the mixture, and sometimes none, but regardless, YOUR personal style should be first and foremost!

Tips & Tricks

1. The key to mixing patterns is SCALE. For the best effect, mix patterns of the same scale, or for a bigger bang, mix large scale patterns with small scale patterns.

2. Mix patterns that contain colors in the same color family, or that have the same dominate color.

3. To take a bit of an easier route, mix patterns in the same genre, for example, floral patterns.

4. Mix patterns that have that share a common theme. The above picture of Solange Knowles is a good example.

4. Unsure of what patterns to mix? Start with the most common patterns, such as florals, stripes, and checked patterns.

5. For another easier route, mix garment patterns with shoe patterns (or details).

3 examples of mixing patterns are below:

Rihanna wearing a tribal print top with printed jeans (I don't know what else to call them besides printed).

TREND WATCH: Wiggle Hem Dresses

Looking for a fun way to glam up a simple look? Try a wiggle hem dress; as seen above on two of my fav fashionistas Solo and Rih Rih. I wasn't quite sure what to call this trend at first, but I found a similar dress on asos.com and saw that they named it wiggle hem so I stole that and I'm sticking with it.

Rings & Things

I'm Back!

It's been quite sometime since ChiomaB and I have posted anything (please excuse those last two posts, there weren't supposed to be published!). I had way too much going on near the end of the semester to do any posts. Now I am fully refreshed and ready to blog my little heart out!

Anyone who knows me knows that I am an accessories fiend, and I especially love rings. During my hiatus I've purchased and been gifted some gorgeous baubles, which you can see below (minus the one by nOir which you'll see farther below).

(rings from Bebe (House of Harlow), Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, BCBG, nOir, and a jewelry show, kind of in that order)

As you can see I love big rings and I love to sparkle. I was especially pleased with a few purchases and as a result I must share them with the masses.

venusFlection: POSH Powell On Dresses On Panties Off

Issue: See through dresses (and quite frankly all articles of see through clothing)

Verdict: Love it.

Exposition: At first glance I love the look. Rihanna has the body, image, and taste to pull off the outfit. The problem I believe most people have with it is that we are used to dresses covering up more than they are showing off (unless your Ice-T's wife Coco).  Also, this dress eludes to the absence of both bra and panties, which is a definite no-no in our society, a a definite no-no for me personally.
My concern is that people will wear this dress and others like it without keeping in mind their body type Can someone with more meat on their bones rock this look? Of course they the can. Khloe Kardashian, who is thicker than Rihanna, also wore a dress with see through elements. The netting went down along the side of the dress, which suited her body type and physique well. However, this look is not for everyone. Swag (which consists of confidence, style, demeanor, and reputation according to urbandictionary.com) should also be considered before debuting this look. No to Celie, yes to Shug Avery.
A lot of people are severely lacking in the styling department. You can not rock your newest pumps with this outfit just because you paid $150 for them at Steve Madden, and would you really need to wear bracelets on both wrists, pedulous earring, and a chain necklace? No bueno. Furthermore, something that hugs your booty and your chest doesn't necessarily look good, especially if you have plenty of one or the other, or both. Rihanna's dress, or any other see through article of clothing can go from looking chic to sleazy if you're not careful.

Closing Words: I know I could rock the world in this babe, but would I? Probably not. It's a hot number but just not my style.

Hate It / Love It: Dresses On Panties Off

Rihanna caused quite a stir when she wore this little number during Paris Fashion Week, and it looks like she's not the only one who's into this risque trend. Khloe Kardashian (-Odom?) was recently spotted out and about also rocking a dress with no undies...

If you're feeling daring and want to copycat this look, you can find a dress similar to Rihanna's at Topshop.

Worried about baring it all for this look? Pair it with nude panties. Look closely and you'll see that was Rih Rih's secret...and ya'll thought she was just being a freak ;-)

WOULD YOU ROCK THIS LOOK?
